This project represents a distinctive case of design continuity. Having completed the original design of the hair salon in 2011, the recent renovation did not seek to overturn the existing concept, but rather to evolve an already strong architectural identity.
The elements that defined the space fifteen years ago—exposed brickwork, polished cement plaster flooring, exposed concrete ceilings, and OSB wood surfaces—have been preserved as the project's enduring aesthetic foundation, demonstrating the timeless quality of natural materials.
The new intervention focused on atmosphere and detail, developed in collaboration with lighting designer Kiki Kelesidou. The new lighting scheme redefined the functionality of the space through a series of strategic design choices:
• Vertical indirect-light “blades” that emphasize the generous height of the interior and the textured surface of the brickwork.
• A suspended lighting track positioned directly above the workstations, providing focused and adequate illumination that supports the hairstylist’s professional precision while ensuring visual comfort for clients.
• Perimeter lighting integrated around the mirrors for accurate colour rendering.
• Suspended disc luminaires in shades of purple, yellow, and grey, adding a contemporary character to the overall environment.
The renovation was completed with the introduction of new vintage-inspired furniture and the collaborative design of a custom product display unit. Constructed from concrete elements and steel beams, this installation integrates harmoniously into the salon’s understated architectural language, reinforcing the existing use of simple, natural materials.
This renewed approach highlights the identity of the space, creating an environment of refined aesthetics that balances the purity of its materials with the dynamic presence of the new lighting design.
